The best Wispr Flow alternatives in 2026

Wispr Flow made voice dictation popular again. It is polished, fast and works in almost any app. But two things push people to look elsewhere: it sends your audio to cloud servers to be transcribed, and at $15 a month it sits at the expensive end of the market. If either of those bothers you, here are the alternatives worth knowing about.
One honesty note up front: we build Quiet Dictation, which is on this list. Keep that bias in mind. Every claim below links to the source so you can check it yourself, and prices were checked on 28 October 2026.
Quiet Dictation
Our own app, so we will keep it factual. Speech recognition runs entirely on your own computer, so your voice never leaves it. It works offline after a one-time setup, on both Mac and Windows. It records and transcribes meetings, and a personal dictionary learns names and preferred spellings as you correct them.
Pricing is $5 a month, $39 a year, or a $79 lifetime deal at launch. There is a 14-day free trial with no credit card required.
Superwhisper
Superwhisper is the closest match on privacy. It can transcribe with local models on your machine or with cloud models, your choice, and it works offline when you use the local ones. It runs on Mac and Windows.
The Pro plan costs $8.49 a month or $84.99 a year, with a $249.99 lifetime option. There is also a free tier with limits, which is a good way to test whether local transcription is accurate enough for your voice.
Aqua Voice
Aqua Voice focuses on speed and a polished writing experience. The Pro plan is $12 a month or $120 a year. Processing is cloud-based in its default mode, and offline availability varies by platform, version and mode, so check their FAQ if offline matters to you.
VoiceInk
VoiceInk is a Mac-only, open source dictation app that processes audio locally. Instead of a subscription it is a one-time purchase: $25 for one Mac or $39 for two. If you dislike subscriptions and only use a Mac, it is a strong option.
Handy
Handy is free and open source, and it runs locally on your computer. It is more basic than the paid apps and expects a bit more patience from you, but it is genuinely free forever. If your budget is zero, start here.

How to choose
- If privacy is the reason you are switching, pick a tool that transcribes locally: Quiet Dictation, Superwhisper with local models, VoiceInk or Handy.
- If you want the lowest-priced paid subscription, that is Quiet Dictation at $5 a month or $39 a year.
- If you hate subscriptions and only use a Mac, VoiceInk's one-time purchase is the cleanest fit.
- If you want to spend nothing at all, Handy is free and open source.
- If you are happy with cloud transcription and want the most polished experience, Wispr Flow itself is still a good product.
And if you want to try ours first: Quiet Dictation has a 14-day free trial, no credit card needed. Hold a hotkey, speak, release, and clean text appears in whatever app you are using. Your voice never leaves your computer.
